TRYING OUT THE TRADITIONAL VEGETARIAN KODAVA DISHES AT COORG CUISINE RESTAURANT

Along with the major sightseeing spots of a specific destination, it is of utmost importance to try out the local cuisine there as well; Especially when it comes to India, where you have a variety of food options to try out in every single city! During our stay in Madikeri, we decided to dedicate one of our afternoon to try out the traditional vegetarian Kodava dishes at Coorg Cuisine restaurant which is located exactly opposite the Madikeri Post Office on the Main Bus Stand road.

Coorg is extremely popular for its Pork preparations but since we don’t prefer Pork, the friendly staff at Coorg Cuisine restaurant was kind enough to recreate the vegetarian version of the famous Pandhi Curry which was way too yummy to be honest. The not-so-spicy taste beautifully complimented the veggies along with the curry full of rich traditional spices.
  • AKKI OTTI

The plain and crispy rice roti (which is mostly preferred in the Konkan region of Maharashtra) is known as Akki Otti in Coorg and the locals prefer it over chapati, especially when it comes to gulping that lip-smacking Pandhi curry. The Akki Otti served was thin, crispy and extremely rich in taste. Since we personally love the rice roti, it surely delighted our taste buds to the core!

The Bamboo Shoot Curry is a special dish that Coorg Cuisine restaurant serves seasonally as per the availability of bamboo shoots. The boiled bamboo shoots were beautifully mixed with various vegetables tossed in their special spice. It had a really unique taste and tasting it was an experience in itself.

Nool Puttu are nothing but plain rice noodles, which are prepared from an unique machine used since many years in Coorg. The taste of these noodles seemed to quite awesome as compared to most of the rice noodles we have ate till date. The people in Coorg consider it as one of the major component in their meals.
